modern web and browsers (firefox, chromium, etc) - new standarts are trying to turn internet into something very easy for creating "beautiful" sites. frameworks, node.js, and more. for example, opened bbc site is using ~300 mb of ram in chromium.
90% gopher clients are need just 2-3 mb to open any gopherspace.
